Depending on the hue and intensity of the coloration in a diamond, the color can either detract or enhance its value. Though most white diamonds are less expensive when hints of yellow are detected, intense pink and blue diamonds are significantly more valuable. One of the most famous diamonds in history is indeed a colored diamond – the Hope Diamond. The stone (45.52 carats) appears blue/grey because of trace amounts of boron.

According to the Gemological Institute of America, demand for colored diamonds has increased 102% since 1999.

In the past few years, the trend toward colored diamonds has been evidenced in Hollywood with a long list of top celebrities spotted wearing them. The list includes Portia de Rossi, Beyonce Knowles, Mariah Carey, Selma Hayek, Jennifer Lopez, Victoria Beckham, Paris Hilton and Heidi Klum.
